Entium Preserves Critical Records
for the Port Authority of NY & NJ
Entium built the Port Authority archives that enable search and retrieval for 100 years of engineering records.
ABout The Port Authority of NY & NJ
The Port Authority of NY & NJ (PANYNJ) is a bistate agency, which conceives, builds, operates and maintains infrastructure critical to the New York/New Jersey region's trade and transportation network. These facilities include America's busiest airport system, marine terminals and ports, the PATH rail transit system, six tunnels and bridges between New York and New Jersey, the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan, and the World Trade Center. For more than eight decades, the Port Authority has worked to improve the quality of life for the more than 17 million people who live and work in New York and New Jersey — a region that supports 8.6 million jobs with an estimated gross regional product of more than $929 billion.
CHALLENGE
Within the PANYNJ, the Electronic Document Center (EDoC) provides a centralized secure and managed environment for storing contract and tenant drawings, documents, authorizations, justifications, permits, certificates, and more. The drawings and documents include historical information pre-dating the Port Authority, as well as original records for infrastructure acquired by the Port Authority over 90 years. From 2002 forward, the Port Authority has kept electronic copies of many document and drawing classes within EDoC. Through the EDoC Search, the Electronic Document Center provides agency-wide access to half a million documents and drawings, along with a rich taxonomy of metadata associated to the array of engineering, contracting, and quality assurance document types.
